After completely wearing out my welcome at the KSC archives, I have managed
to obtain nearly every existing drawing used by contractors for building LC34, inlcuding the site itself, the pad, the Launch Umbilical Tower and its swing arms,
and the Mobile Service Structure.
Set 1: Pad and Launch Pedistal
104 drawings.
This the the complete set of construction plans for LC34, minus five sheets that are missing from the NASA archives. Everything you need to build your own launch complex, be it a scale replica or the real deal, is right here. I had the originals professionally scanned at 200 dpi from the 40" x 28"
prints, resulting in hefty greyscale files that weigh in around 8000 X 5600 pixels!
Set 2: Launch Umbilical Tower
49 drawings
This is as much of this set as NASA has, 11 drawings listed in the index are missing from the NASA archive.
Caveat Emptor: These are multiple generation prints of drawings nearly 40 years old. The images are pretty rough in places. They are especially bad on the full elevation sheets (probably the most requested and reproduced drawings). To help make up for this, I managed to locate a set of 8 "bidding" drawings, selected sheets drawn up before the main plans were done to obtain price bids for materials and workmanship. These sheets are significantly cleaner than the actual construction drawings, and go a long way to filling in any obscured details.
Set 3: LUT Swing Arms
20 drawings.
This set is slightly smaller, most measuring around 3500 x 1900 pixels, and were taken from NASA Document No. N64-26368, "Umbilical Swing Arms – Complex 34 – Saturn 1B Vehicles" These drawings diagram each of the LUT swing arms in great detail.
Set 4: Mobile Service Structure
35 drawings.
This is the complete set of construction drawings for the MSS, plus a bonus drawing showing a novel unused concept for getting the crew off the tower in an emergency.
Set 5: Apollo Access Arm
23 drawings.
Details the arm used to access the Apollo spacecraft, including the "white room" environmental chamber. From NASA Document No. TN-394-D, "Engineering Report – Apollo Command Module Access Arms, Saturn 1B – Launch Complexes 34 and 37"
Set 6: Bonus Documents
62 files.
These are documents and images that I've compiled from the web, including the images showcased on this site, plus plans of the blockhouse interior layout and the placement of closed circuit video cameras around the pad.
